Working with Python on Tetralith - venue Stockholm University

NSC is pleased to present a training day open for all users of NSC resources on October 16th 2019.

What is it?

This training day will give an introdution to working with Python on the NSC Tetralith system. Please note: this is not a Python programming course, SNIC/SeSE separately offers a number of such courses e.g. Computational Python, Introduction to scientific computating

During the day we will go through topics including:

Python usage basics: 10:30 - 10:45

  • Default python on Tetralith
  • Python modules
  • Check availability of packages in a python module
  • Control Python version within your scripts

Customizing your Python environment: 10:45 - 12:00

  • Why manage your own python environment on Tetralith?
  • packages, environments, pip, virtualenv and conda: basics
  • pip install?
  • Customizing your Python using conda
  • Customizing your Python using virtualenv
  • When to use conda, when to use virtualenv

Lunch break (lunch provided upon request): 12:00 - 13:00

More advanced usage: 13:00 - 15:00

  • Sharing conda environments
  • Jupyter notebooks on Tetralith
  • Multi-processor Python jobs

This event is intended to be an interactive/hands on training event that will also provide a forum for direct interactions with consultants from the Bolin Centre and NSC.
