Level of support

Tier 3 NSC will not be able to help you much with this program, either because we lack the in-house experience, or because it is a test installation. In general, these types of installations are untested, and will not be updated unless you send a request to NSC.

Please see the page describing our software support categories for more information.

Virtual NanoLab, VNL, is a licensed software from QuantumWise in which one can build atomic structures, e.g. supercells, surface structures, nanostructures. It is a part of the Atomistix ToolKit (ATK), observe that our license only covers VNL. Tutorials for using the “builder” can be found in the above link.

It is also possible to use VNL to set up and analyze VASP calculations.

NSC has license for two concurrent users, therefore it is important to quit the program after finishing, so that others may run it. OBS: the free Academic version of VNL does not include some of the tools for VASP.

How to run VNL

Load the module corresponding to the version you want to use, then start “vnl”, e.g:

module load vnl/2016.1
vnl &

Remember that you will need to be logged in with X forwarding or the current VNC solution available to make use of the interface. NSC recommends the VNC solution.
