In the period leading up to the final shutdown of Tetralith, NAISS
will send out weekly reminder emails to members and Principal
Investigators (PI) for any Tetralith project that still has project
data left on Tetralith.
This page explains in more detail what you need to do as project
member or PI.
If you are the Principal Investigator (PI) for a Tetralith project
- Make a plan for the project: where will the project data be moved
(usually to Arrenius), how, and when. Make sure you have read the
migration
guide,
it explains how to move data to Arrhenius.
- Follow up that the data has been moved as planned
- IMPORTANT: inform NAISS that any data remaining in the project
directory on Tetralith can now be deleted. Do this as soon as
possible, but no later than 2026-10-14. The easiest way to do
this is to click the “Ready to Delete” link in the reminder email
from NAISS. That link sends you to the SUPR portal where you can
confirm that the data can be deleted.
If for some reason you cannot use Ready To Delete in SUPR, contact
NSC Support.
If you have not informed NAISS that the project data can be deleted,
on the morning of 2026-10-15 one of the following things will happen:
- If the project has a storage directory on Arrhenius: the Tetralith
data will be moved there. This move might not happen immediately, so
you might lose access to the data for days or weeks. This move might
result in your Arrhenius storage quota being exceeded, which will
cause job failures.
- If the project does not have a storage directory on Arrhenius: NAISS
will formally inform your Swedish home university (which is obligated
to store your research results) that there might be research data left
on Tetralith. This will cause more work for NAISS, your university and
you (since your university Research Data Office will probably contact
you to sort things out).
So please: make sure your Tetralith data has been moved to safety
before 2026-10-14 (preferably much sooner) and then click the Ready to
Delete link in the reminder email BEFORE 2026-10-14!
Some special cases for those using storagemigrate
- If you have used
storagemigrate to move the entire project
directory to Arrhenius, you do not need to use the Ready to Delete
link since you no longer have any data on Tetralith (and you should
not have received any reminder emails after the move was completed).
- If you have used
storagemigrate to move the subdirectory
/proj/.../to-arrhenius to Arrhenius, you should ensure that the
the remaining data outside to-arrhenius has been backed up and
then use the Ready to Delete link.
- If you have used
storagemigrate to request “no move” you still
need to use the Ready to Delete link.
If you are the “proxy for the PI” for a Tetralith project
- Make sure that this information has reached the PI
- Agree with the PI which one of you handles the items listed above
If you are a member of a Tetralith project
- Make sure the project PI has a plan for how the project’s data will
be handled. If you have not heard anything from the PI - ask!
- If the PI has asked that all project members handle their own data,
please do so as soon as possible and let the PI know when it is
done.
- Copy or move any data you wish to keep from your Tetralith home
directory (/home/…) elsewhere. This data is your
responsibility. If you wish to copy your entire home directory to
your Arrhenius home directory, you can use the command
copy_home_directory_to_arrhenius (just run it, it is safe, it will
ask before doing anything and you can use it multiple times)
What will happen and when
- 2026-06-15 - 2026-09-15: The number of Tetralith compute nodes will
be gradually reduced from 1900 to 200.
- 2026-09-30 23:59 CEST: no Tetralith compute jobs will be able to run
after this time. Jobs that cannot finish before this time will not
be started.
- 2026-10-14 23:59 CEST: All Tetralith login nodes are shut
down. After this date, you will not be able to access any data on
Tetralith.
- 2026-10-15: Data from projects that have a project storage directory
on Arrhenius will be forcibly moved to Arrhenius. If many such
projects exist, the process may take many days or weeks during which
you will not be able to access your data.
- 2026-10-15: NAISS will contact the various Research Data Offices
regarding data from projects that have no storage directory on
Arrenius.
- 2026-11-01: Any data not being moved to Arrenius or claimed by a
Research Data Office will be deleted.
Questions
Please contact NSC Support if you have any questions
regarding this. And please do so as soon as possible, the deadlines on
this page are very real and we do not plan to make any exceptions.
