MPI and Grid Courses at NSC
Introduction to Grid Computing and Storage

This course provides an introduction on how to use grid computing and grid storage available in SweGrid and SweStore. It is intended for new users as well as current HPC users. The lectures will be given by Jonas Lindemann from Lunarc.

  • An overview of the foundations of the Grid.
  • Applying for membership in a virtual organization (VO).
  • Installation of grid client software.
  • Generating proxy certificate.
  • Creating job descriptions (xRSL).
  • Submitting and monitoring jobs.
  • Downloading jobs.
  • Storing and retrieving data to and from external URL:s.
  • Using runtime-environments.
  • Creating and managing parameter sweeps
  • Introduction to SweStore and the national storage infrastructure
  • Accessing storage resources.

The course is delivered as lectures together with hands-on practical sessions.

Prerequisites

You should bring a laptop for the practical sessions and will need to indicate in the registration form if you need guest access to the university WLAN.

About the Lecturer

Jonas Lindemann is the SweGrid coordinator and works at the Lunarc supercomputer centre in Lund.

Time and Location

The course is held on October 25 between 9:00 and 17:00. A detailed schedule will be provided later. Lectures will be held in NSC's conference room in the G building on Campus Valla and lunch will be served at a nearby restaurant.
