Batch system

• PBS: Portable Batch System (OpenPBS or PBS Pro)

• One server on each of the computing nodes and one on the master node

• Queues jobs, takes care of job startup and job shutdown.

• Prologue and epilogue scripts, file stage in and file stage out

• Qsub and qdel commands

• Keeps some track of non-functioning compute nodes

• Has an open interface to external job schedulers
