Why build PC clusters?

• (Needing computing resources...)

• Much cheaper than traditional supercomputers

• But no vector processing and no shared memory?

• Many problem areas do not need this and manage fine with:

  • The computing power of modern PCs ...
  • ... message passing libraries ...
  • ... and the networks available for PC clusters
