Project 43: Standardization for micros Renamed "Programming and Presentation of Numeric Software for Microcomputer Users" 1986. Madison 1982: ============= Battiste reviewed the problems associated with provision of scientific software on micros. He wants micro manufacturers to be forced to live up to good standards. A software house such as C Abaci (100 abacuses) relies on the quality of basic software and without it has no solid base from which to work. At present manufacturers do not accept their responsibilities. The range of sophistication of users is very wide and, unlike the situation on main-frames, they can expect little guidance from analysts and consultants. Gentleman asked whether Battiste had problems over copying floppy disks. He said that volume copying and subsequent testing will be difficult for a time. Ford remarked that it takes real determination to get discs copied and the system up. Battiste said that it is testing and examining results of tests that really takes time. It was agreed that the subgroup Battiste, Rice, Ford would prepare a document and circulate it to the group. Battiste would write the first draft and sent it to Rice and Ford. Soederkoeping 1983: =================== See document IFIP/WG 2.5 (Soederkoeping-08) 1008. In the absence of Battiste, his document was discussed. Hull agreed to answer Battiste, and Ford to prepare a paper for the next meeting. Argonne 1986: ============= Document: IFIP/WG 2.5 (Argonne-16) 1316, 2 pages. E. Battiste discussed some of the problems involved in providing software portability among micro-computers. Programming and Presentation of Numeric Software for Microcomputer Users. ---------------------------------------------------- E. Battiste talked about the problems of preparing and presenting computer software for desk-top computer users. He proposed that the current project number 43, Transportability for Micros, be renamed "Programming and Presentation of Numeric Software for Microcomputer Users". The proposal was accepted by the group. Jerusalem 1990: =============== Gentleman would like to keep the project open (Vouk).
