The HPC Technology Roadmap: Status Report 5 (July 11, 2001)

The HPC Technology Roadmap Study has conducted all but one interview with HPC vendors, regarding hardware architectures 5-10 years from now. We have interviewed Dr. Martin Walker (Compaq), Dr. Wolfgang Mertz (sgi), Dr. Benoit Marchand (Sun), Dr. Jamshed Mirza (IBM) and Dr. Burton J. Smith, (Cray Inc.). All interviews thus far have been very fruitful, and we have collected a great deal of interesting material for the forthcoming report. The final and only remaining interview with Dr David Snelling (Fujitsu) will be take place in August.

In conjunction with the interviews most of the vendors gave a public seminar on the future of HPC. The seminars were presented as part of a seminar series "Supercomputing Today and Tomorrow", please see www.nsc.liu.se/rd/enacts/seminars.html. The response to the seminars was very positive.
